Women's Leadership Committee Seasonal Series: Dr. Edward Lengel

On November 16, the Trust for the National Mall’s Women’s Leadership Committee hosted a virtual event featuring Dr. Edward Lengel, Chief Historian at the National Medal of Honor Museum, former White House historian, author and George Washington expert. Dr. Lengel discussed Revolutionary War history, General Washington as a military leader, and Medal of Honor standards and the National Medal of Honor Museum.

About the Speaker
Dr. Edward Lengel
Chief Historian, National Medal of Honor Museum
Dr. Edward Lengel is the Chief Historian at the National Medal of Honor Museum. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia, where he was a full professor and directed the Washington Papers Project for many years. He then served as Chief Historian of the White House Historical Association. Dr. Lengel is also a professional author, speaker and battlefield tour guide, and has written fourteen books on American history, including General George Washington: A Military Life, and To Conquer Hell: The Meuse-Argonne Offensive of 1918. He is a co-recipient of the National Humanities Medal and has won two writing awards from the Army Historical Foundation. He has made frequent television and radio appearances on The History Channel, SiriusXM, National Public Radio, and many others.

In 2007, a small group of dynamic women formed the Women’s Leadership Committee (WLC) of the Trust for the National Mall. Since the Committee’s first benefit luncheon in a small tent on the National Mall, this exceptional group has actively advocated to restore the prestige and attention our National Mall deserves.
